With Ganit and her bicycle

Early May 2009, we went back to Bario with Edmund (grandson). We had a stop over-night in
Miri. Visited and had dinner with his cousins Ganit and Daniel. He was fatinated with Ganit's
riding her bicycle and wanted to try but he was scared of mounting it.He have a bigger bicycle
in his aunt Jane's place in KL.We push him sitting on it.
When we arrived Bario he watched Liging (Ganit's couisin) 7 yrs old cycling around the long house and remembered his bicycle in KL. "When I go back to KL,I will cycle my bicycle."
Indeed when we came back he went cycling along the corridor of the apartment. He surprised me
by self peddling like Liging did in Bario. We don't need to push him anymore. It was good seeing how he learns.

Elizabeth and I went to Singapore for a few days in December 2008. We had agreat time
with Kee Yong ,Grace and the children. The sight-seeing and the eating were great ( tried
the famous Singapore smelly taufoo - it was that smelly). We had a great time hunting for the
Tiger Orchid at the Singapore Orchid Garden. We didn't know how it look like. After we found it
alas it was the common "Ant-eater orchid"(Kelabit translation) in Bario.

After the taps of the main pipes in the village ran dry for a few months we finally decided
to do some repair to the dam and main pipe. It was early in the year around January and early February 2009 when the flood came and washed the dam down that the taps ran dry. When I went back we mobilised the able bodies of the village to do the repair. (Having lived in town
most part of my life - can't stand dry taps - and remembering the good old days in the village
when we had no pipe water but had bathing place in the river (aken) and the bamboo-water carrier (tabang). We had a very good time working together and rekindling the the gotong-royong spirit.
